Lucknow, Jul 4 (PTI) — The Uttar Pradesh government is set to strengthen its grant-aided primary schools to improve access to quality education for children from marginalized communities, according to an official statement released on Friday.
Under this initiative, primary schools managed by the Social Welfare Department will offer free, high-quality education to children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, focusing on Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and families below the poverty line.
Currently, 448 grant-aided primary schools in the state are recognized by the Basic Education Department and are funded by the Social Welfare Department. The initiative not only emphasizes providing free education but also aims to introduce modern teaching methods, improve basic infrastructure, and ensure the recruitment of trained teachers. These schools provide free textbooks, uniforms, and other learning materials to lessen the financial impact on parents, with the objective of evolving into centers of holistic development for children.
The Social Welfare Department has digitalized the grant process, making it time-bound to prevent fund misuse and ensure that funds are directly used for school development and student education. Regular inspections and audits are scheduled to uphold this system, the statement added.
Further efforts include enhancing teacher recruitment and training in these schools to guarantee a high standard of education. By incorporating children from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and families living below the poverty line into mainstream education, the initiative not only supports their academic growth but also enhances their confidence and future prospects. This initiative aligns with the Yogi Adityanath government's policy of "Education for All, Respect for All."
Speaking on the matter, Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge), Aseem Arun, emphasized that the government's priority is to deliver quality education to even the most marginalized segments of society. Through grant-aided primary schools, comprehensive educational resources are being provided while ensuring transparency, accountability, and quality.
The ultimate goal is to position Uttar Pradesh as a model state in the education sector.
