Kollam, Kerala, Sep 4 (PTI): In a tragic incident, three members of a family, including two young children, lost their lives in a head-on collision between their sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus at Ochira, located in the southern district of Kerala, according to police reports.

The family was reportedly on their way back home after bidding farewell to a relative at Kochi airport when their vehicle collided with a KSRTC bus traveling from Kollam to Cherthala.

The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. at Valiyakulangara, Ochira, on a stretch of the National Highway.

Those who perished in the crash were identified as Prince Thomas and his children, son Athul and daughter Alka, residents of Pipe Junction, Thevalkara in Kollam.

Currently, three other individuals are receiving medical treatment at a private hospital, and their conditions are reported to be critical.

The collision resulted in both vehicles being severely damaged. Locals acted swiftly to cut open the SUV's doors and took the injured to the hospital.

Sadly, Prince and his children couldn't survive the injuries sustained in the accident.

Police from Ochira, referencing CCTV footage from nearby shops, suggested that Prince might have fallen asleep while driving, and that the SUV was speeding.

Nonetheless, a comprehensive investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
