Bhubaneswar, Jul 2 (PTI) A tragic incident unfolded in Odisha's Bolangir district as a young man was killed by his childhood friend over a complex love triangle, according to police reports.
The victim has been identified as Kunja Majhi, hailing from Dumerchuan village in the Kantabanji area of the district.
Police have apprehended two individuals in connection with this case, as stated in their report.
According to authorities, Kunja met a tragic end at the hands of his childhood friend, Satya Nag, along with Satya's associate, Shankar Gharsel, on the night of June 20 following an argument among them.
Additional SP of Bolangir, Alok Jena, explained that Satya had been using Kunja's mobile phone to communicate with his girlfriend. However, matters took a dark turn when Satya discovered that Kunja had also started communicating with his girlfriend without notifying him.
"Satya warned Kunja to cease all communication with his girlfriend and distance himself from her. However, Kunja continued his interactions with the girl, leading Satya to devise a plan to eliminate Kunja," said Additional SP Alok Jena.
On the night of June 20, Satya lured Kunja to a secluded spot, where he, with Shankar's assistance, committed the crime. They brutally attacked Kunja with an iron rod, striking him multiple times, the ASP informed.
Afterwards, they concealed Kunja's body inside a gunny bag and disposed of it in a well located near an old cement factory in the vicinity of the village, police stated.
On June 29, locals reported suspicious activity near the deserted well, leading to police intervention. The Kantabanji police recovered Kunja's body and launched an investigation.
Kunja's relatives had previously filed a missing person report at the Kantabanji police station, which aided authorities in identifying the body, said a police officer.
By analyzing Kunja's call records, police managed to solve the case and arrest Satya and Shankar. The authorities have seized the victim's mobile phone, the iron rod used as the murder weapon, and other related evidence from the crime scene, the officer noted.
The additional SP also remarked, "If necessary, we will include the woman involved in our investigation."
