Rajouri/Jammu, May 27 (PTI) Over 100 sheep and goats owned by nomadic families tragically perished after being struck by lightning in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, officials reported on Tuesday.

The unfortunate event took place in the upper reaches of the Budhal sub-division. A severe lightning storm, accompanied by thunder and hail, hit a shepherd's camp during the night between Monday and Tuesday, officials stated.

Nomadic families from Budhal’s Targain village had migrated to the higher regions with their livestock in search of better pastures, following their seasonal tradition. They established a camp near Marg top, as is customary.

This morning, a team from the Budhal Sheep and Husbandry Department visited the scene to assess the losses faced by the devastated families. The affected families have urgently appealed for compensation and rehabilitation.
