Tumakuru, Karnataka, June 30 (PTI) – A tragic head-on collision on the Kunigal bypass claimed the lives of four family members, including a 13-year-old boy. The fatal incident, involving a car and a speeding mini-truck, occurred in this district, police confirmed on Monday. The victims were identified as Seebe Gowda, aged 50; his wife Shobha, aged 45; their daughter Dumbishree, aged 23; and their young son Bhanukiran, aged 13.

According to the police report, the accident took place around 8 p.m. on Sunday. The family was en route to drop their son, a class 8 student at Valley School, off at his hostel near Bidanagere, located on the outskirts of Kunigal. The family, residing in Magadi town, was traveling together post-dinner for this journey to the school hostel.

As they approached the Kunigal bypass, a speeding Canter truck, driving in the wrong direction on a one-way road, collided head-on with their vehicle. A senior police officer reported that the car was also speeding at the time, and the collision's impact was so intense that the four car occupants died instantly.

The truck driver has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested, noted the officer.
