Darbhanga: In a tragic incident at the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Bihar, a 25-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his father-in-law in a case suspected to be "honour killing," reported the police on Wednesday.

The victim, Rahul Kumar, a 25-year-old second-year nursing student at DMCH, was allegedly shot at point-blank range by his father-in-law, Premshankar Jha, on Tuesday evening.

Following the shooting, Rahul's classmates managed to apprehend Jha and subjected him to a severe beating. By the time the police arrived at the scene, Jha had suffered significant injuries and required hospitalization. He was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Patna as his condition was deemed critical.

Rahul, originally hailing from Supaul, had married Jha's daughter in April. She is also a student at DMCH. The police indicated that Jha was opposed to the inter-caste marriage, which might have been the motive behind the murder.

The victim's body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

In the wake of the murder, nursing students staged a protest by blocking the main gate of the hospital's Emergency Room, which led to a disruption in medical services.

The police reportedly used "mild force" to disperse the protesters and restore order.

Currently, a significant number of security personnel have been deployed to the hospital, and officials have stated that the situation is now under control.
