Tragedy struck in Birbhum district, West Bengal, as a fire in a residential complex, on Monday evening, February 10th, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left four others, including two children, with severe injuries. The blaze erupted on the first floor of the five-storey building, located in the Bolpur area, and quickly spread, trapping several residents inside. Firefighters responded promptly, but their initial efforts to control the flames were unsuccessful, prompting the deployment of two additional fire engines.
However, controlling the blaze proved challenging, necessitating the deployment of two additional fire engines. Firefighters were able to rescue several residents trapped inside by breaking an iron grill and utilizing a tall ladder.
The injured were transported to Bolpur Sub-Divisional Hospital; unfortunately, two succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by a hospital official.
The rescue operation is ongoing, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, according to Amandeep, the Superintendent of Police in Birbhum.
