Mumbai, Aug 29 (PTI) Massive traffic congestion gripped the roads near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in South Mumbai on Friday as thousands of protesters gathered in support of the Maratha quota demand. Thousands of Maratha community members converged on roads leading to Azad Maidan, gearing up for the quota agitation led by activist Manoj Jarange, scheduled to commence on Friday. The congestion brought BEST buses and other vehicles to a standstill for over 30 minutes during the morning rush hour. Senior police officers swiftly arrived at the CSMT area, appealing to Jarange’s supporters to vacate the roads and facilitate vehicular movement. Efforts are ongoing to disperse the protesters and restore normal traffic flow. As a precautionary measure due to the protest, Mumbai police have shut down several key roads for all vehicular traffic except emergency services. These are Panvel-Sion Road, V N Purav Road, Eastern Freeway, P D’Mello Road, Wallchand Hirachand Marg, Dr Dadabhai Nauroji Road, and Hajarimal Somani Road.
