Top education official explains why Mughals were dropped from history books

NCERT, the top advisory body for Centre and state on school education, has denied allegations that the changes being made to history textbooks are politically motivated.

Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director of NCERT, said that chapters on Mughal history were dropped from Class 12 textbooks to help students who suffered learning loss due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He added that the exercise was professional and meant lighten the burden of students.  He said that the decision was taken last year

Saklani rejected the allegations that the changes were made to suit a particular ideology.
