Malappuram (Kerala), May 30 (PTI): Trinamool Congress state convener P V Anvar announced on Friday that he will hold off for another day before declaring whether his party will participate in the Nilambur assembly seat by-poll.

Anvar addressed reporters, stating that he has received calls from various senior leaders of the UDF, Congress, and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), requesting him to delay any announcements for another day.

In addition, several religious and social leaders have also urged Anvar to postpone his announcement.

"Given the requests from all these senior figures to wait an extra day and refrain from making declarations today, the purpose for which I convened this press conference will remain undisclosed," he said.

"With so many requests to delay, I feel obliged to comply. Many of these individuals aim to assist me, and I am comparatively small in stature before them. Hence, I am deferring my announcement for the time being," Anvar explained.

"I am hopeful for a satisfactory resolution," he added.

Anvar's comments come after his allegations that Opposition Leader V D Satheesan has a clandestine agenda to obstruct his entry into the UDF.

He claimed that Satheesan's position is the primary barrier preventing his party from joining the UDF as an associate member ahead of the Nilambur bypoll.

Responding to Anvar's assertions, Satheesan stated that the UDF only seeks Anvar's support for its candidate, and other matters can be addressed afterward.

The Nilambur by-election, prompted by Anvar's resignation as MLA, is set for June 19.
