Kolkata, May 28 (PTI) — Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has raised a complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, accusing fellow party member Kalyan Banerjee of verbal abuse and exhibiting misogynistic behavior towards women parliamentarians.
This complaint surfaces amid growing tensions within the TMC following its recent electoral defeat in the assembly elections, with increasing displays of internal dissent becoming visible.
In her correspondence to the Speaker, Ghosh Dastidar requested permission to file a formal complaint and called for action against Kalyan Banerjee.
"I seek your permission to lodge a formal complaint to you for redressal against Lok Sabha Member of AITC Kalyan Banerjee, who has repeatedly verbally abused me inside the Lok Sabha. This misogyny has been against many lady members and needs to be punished," stated the MP from West Bengal's Barasat in her letter.
Neither Banerjee nor the TMC leadership has issued an immediate response to the complaint.
This development is particularly significant as it occurs just a day after the four-term Barasat MP stepped down from all her organizational roles within the TMC and directed sharp criticism at certain sections of the party leadership.
Despite her resignation from party roles, she continues to serve as the MP for Barasat, a position she secured on a TMC ticket.
