Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Three Lives in Narmada River

Harda (MP), May 27 (PTI) Three men tragically drowned in the Narmada river in Harda district of Madhya Pradesh while bathing on Tuesday, police reported.

The unfortunate incident occurred at a spot near Lachhora Ghat, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Timarni police station, according to an official statement.

"The mishap took place as a large gathering of individuals was bathing at Lachhora Ghat on the occasion of 'amavasya' (dark moon day). Three young men ventured into deep waters, approximately 200 meters from the shore, where they drowned," explained Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Akanksha Tirya.

Initially, two of the victims had entered the deep water to bathe, but they started to drown after becoming trapped, the officer stated.

The third individual leaped in an effort to save them, but unfortunately, all three perished in the attempt, she added.

Those who lost their lives have been identified as Ramdas Sejkar (35), Devendra Jat (25), and Karan Jat (30). Ramdas succumbed to the waters while trying to rescue the other two, as per the police account.

Once alerted about the incident, a team consisting of police officers, along with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Home Guard, promptly arrived at the scene.

The bodies of the victims were eventually recovered and will be released to their families following the post-mortem examination at the Harda District Hospital, Tirya confirmed.
