Violent ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kuki communities in Manipur since May 3 have claimed 98 lives and have left over 45,000 people displaced. The clashes erupted after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' organised by the Kuki community to protest against the Meitei community's demand for ST status.
