Thane, August 18 (PTI): Authorities have filed a case against a man from Thane, Maharashtra, who allegedly masqueraded as a travel agent to deceive a person of Rs 3.77 lakh by falsely promising international flight tickets, a police official revealed on Monday.
The complaint was filed by a 32-year-old individual from Silchar, Rajasthan, who reported that he came into contact with the accused via an acquaintance.
The suspect enticed the complainant into transferring Rs 3,77,916 through UPI, claiming the funds were for purchasing tickets to send two of his relatives abroad for employment, the official from Mira Road police station stated.
However, it was later discovered that the tickets were counterfeit. Upon confronting the accused, the victim initially received hollow assurances and was eventually cut off from all communication.
A case of cheating and forgery was officially lodged against the accused on August 15, the official confirmed.
