40-year-old Thane Man Falls Victim to Cryptocurrency Scam, Loses Rs 27 Lakh

Thane, Oct 17 (PTI) - In a disconcerting case from Maharashtra's Thane district, a 40-year-old man has reportedly lost approximately Rs 27 lakh in a cryptocurrency scam that promised high returns. An official from the local police disclosed this information on Friday.

According to the man’s complaint lodged at the Kolsewadi police station in Kalyan, a certain Dheeraj Sakalkar, a resident of Kolhapur, deceived him between May and July of this year. He was lured into investing in digital assets with the promise of a lucrative 30 per cent return on his investment.

The victim recounted to the police that he had transferred a total of about Rs 27 lakh in multiple transactions, hoping for the attractive returns. After months of anticipation, neither the promised return nor the principal amount materialized, and the accused soon became unreachable.

An official from Kolsewadi police confirmed that a case has been registered, and they are actively working to trace the accused and recover the defrauded amount.
