Thane, July 3 (PTI): A man from Bhiwandi in Thane district has been charged with stealing electricity valued at approximately Rs 4.82 lakh, according to an official statement released on Thursday. Amar Laxman Gharat, a resident of Karivali, allegedly pilfered 13,649 units of electricity over the course of a year, as reported by the Shanti Nagar police. The case was filed following a complaint by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) staff. An inspection conducted on May 16 revealed that Gharat was illicitly drawing power directly from the transformer, effectively bypassing MSEDCL's metering system. Although charged under the Electricity Act 2003, Gharat has not yet been apprehended, the official confirmed.
