Thane, Sep 1 (PTI) Four individuals sustained injuries after a lift plummeted from the sixth floor of a building in Thane district, Maharashtra, as reported by officials on Monday.

The accident occurred at an eight-storey structure situated in the Ghandari locality of Kalyan town late Sunday night.

Local residents revealed that the lift malfunctioned and abruptly dropped from the sixth floor.

Out of the eight passengers inside the lift, four were injured, prompting immediate assistance from locals who transported them to a nearby hospital.

Among the injured, two individuals suffered leg fractures, officials confirmed.

A senior official from the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation's fire brigade stated that they were not notified about the incident, and some locals took it upon themselves to rescue the lift's occupants.

The fire brigade learned of the incident through media reports and subsequently inspected the site.

The police, too, mentioned they were not informed about the occurrence.

Residents claimed that the lift had been malfunctioning for months, and although they had informed the housing society management, no action was taken.
