Thane, Jul 25 (PTI) — An assistant engineer from the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra's Thane district has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe. The official, identified as 57-year-old Ravindra Ahire, is accused of taking a sum of Rs 40,000 in connection with a petrol pump.
The bribe was reportedly solicited for issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) pertaining to underground drainage clearance for the fuel station, according to an ACB official. Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Jaykar of ACB Thane explained that Ahire had initially demanded Rs 60,000 for the document, which is crucial for starting operations of a new petrol pump.
Upon receiving a tip-off, the ACB set a trap and caught Ahire red-handed while accepting the Rs 40,000 bribe in his car on Thursday. The engineer has now been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, as confirmed by the official.
