Thane, Oct 9 (PTI): A tragic incident unfolded in Maharashtra's Thane district as a 7-year-old boy, who had gone missing after heading to his classes, was found dead in a water tank near his residence, according to a police report on Thursday.

The boy lived with his parents in a building located in the Bhiwandi area. On Tuesday, at about 6 pm, he left home to attend his Arabic classes at a nearby mosque, as reported by an official from the Bhoiwada police station, quoting the child's father, who is employed as a powerloom worker.

When the boy failed to return by 7.30 pm, his worried parents initiated a search operation. Tragically, they discovered their son lying lifeless in a water tank beneath the stairs of an adjacent building later that night, the official mentioned.

The child was retrieved from the tank and quickly taken to a hospital, where medical professionals declared him dead. The circumstances surrounding how the boy ended up in the water tank remain unclear, and the police are currently treating the incident as an accidental death while conducting further investigations.
