Srinagar, September 8 (PTI) In a significant development in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, security forces neutralized an unidentified terrorist during an encounter on Monday, while a soldier sustained injuries, officials reported.
Authorities initiated a search operation in the Guddar forest region of Kulgam after receiving intelligence about terrorist activity.
The operation escalated into an encounter when terrorists fired upon security forces, according to official sources.
In a statement, the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army said, "Based on specific intelligence provided by JKP, a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army, J&K Police, and CRPF in the Guddar forest of Kulgam."
The statement further detailed that vigilant troops detected suspicious activity, and upon being challenged, the terrorists opened fire, resulting in a fierce gunfight. During the exchange, one terrorist was neutralized, and a junior commissioned officer was injured.
The operation remains active, according to the Chinar Corps.
