Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati reacted to the killing of BSP Tamil Nadu president K Armstrong. Mayawati said the state government "must punish the guilty".
The BSP leader was attacked by bike-borne gang near his house in Perambur on Friday and inflicted grave injuries on him. Armstrong dies on the way to hospital. Hindustan Times quoting police sources said a manhunt has been launched to nab the suspects. Chennai police have formed 10 special teams to probe the murder.
Taking it to the X Mayawati wrote "The gruesome killing of Mr. K. Armstrong, Tamil Nadu state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president, outside his Chennai house is highly deplorable and condemnable. An advocate by profession, he was known as a strong Dalit voice in the state. The state Govt. must punish the guilty.”
The Chennai police in a statement said that Armstrong was standing in front of his house at Venugopal Samy Kovil Street, Perambur (K-1 Sembium PS limits), when he was attacked by unknown persons with knives. The police with the help of a passersby took him to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Opposition AIADMK leader K Palaniswami condemned Armstrong's killing and slammed the ruling DMK government. Palaniswami said if a leader like a BSP's state president is assassinated then what is the point of criticising the law and order in the state.
Armstrong advocated for the rights of Dalits and the underprivileged in Tamil Nadu. Even though the BSP doesn't have any political presence in Tamil Nadu, Armstrong was a known Dalit voice in the state.
