June 4 was supposed to be a special day for Tamil Nadu's BJP leader K Annamalai. As, he was not only expected to snatch his maiden maiden electoral victory from the Coimbatore constituency, where BJP has a strong presence, but also because today was his birthday.

The former police officer-turned-politician fought this election by poking holes in the Dravidian model of governance of the DMK and ADMK. But, he wasn't able to woo the voters.

The firebrand leader was last observed to be trailing behind DMK's Ganapathi P Raj Kumar by over 84,000 votes.

The 40-year-old leader had garnered over 3 lakh votes and emerged second in the contestant's list.
