Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh was forced to surrender due to fears over his wife's arrest, according to a report by India Today quoting sources.

Amritpal's surrender and arrest came three days after his wife Kirandeep Kaur, a British national, was stopped from boarding a flight to London at the Amritsar airport and questioned.

According to reports, Kirandeep was under surveillance and being tracked by the Punjab Police.

The India Today report said that Amritpal Singh routed funds through his wife and stashed them in the UK and he was afraid that they would implicate her for helping him.
