Today, the Supreme Court addressed a petition concerning the handling of data from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after elections. The petition requested that data from the EVMs not be erased following the counting of votes. In response, a bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna ruled that no data should be deleted or reloaded onto the EVMs at this time.

The court has directed the Election Commission to provide detailed information on the procedures for managing the memory and microcontroller of EVMs post-election, including whether these components are permanently erased or reconfigured.
