Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud expressed strong displeasure while rejecting a plea seeking registration for couples who are in a live-in relationship.

The petitioner argued that registration was needed to stop crime by live-in partners

Calling it a 'harebrained idea', the chief justice said people approach the apex court with all sorts of pleas and it will now have to start penalising people for posting such petitions.

Further reprimanding the petitioner, the Supreme Court asked if they were trying to foster security or stop people from being in live-in relationship.
