Kolkata, Oct 7 (PTI) - Subhankar Sarkar, the president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC), led a delegation of Congress leaders to the landslide-hit regions of North Bengal on Tuesday morning to evaluate the situation firsthand.
Sarkar is also slated to meet the affected families in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal.
Accompanied by senior Congress figures Partha Bhowmik and Ashutosh Chatterjee, the Bengal Congress president paused at various stops on his way to Mirik to assess the damage, according to party sources.
"He engaged with local residents and reassured them of complete support during this challenging time," a party official conveyed to PTI.
The region has been reeling under the impact of torrential rains that have triggered landslides and floods, resulting in the death of 30 people with several others missing throughout North Bengal.
The Bengal Congress took proactive steps by forming a dedicated committee on Monday to coordinate disaster response efforts in North Bengal, aiming to facilitate aid to those in distress, as stated by the official.
Sarkar plans to deliver a comprehensive report to the higher party leadership following his visit.
