Gangtok, Jun 30 (PTI) — A Parliamentary panel engaged in discussions concerning the advancement of national highways in Sikkim during a meeting with Governor Om Prakash Mathur, as per a statement from Raj Bhavan released on Monday.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture is on a five-day visit to Sikkim and paid a courtesy call to Governor Om Prakash Mathur at the Raj Bhavan.
The delegation was headed by Rajya Sabha MP and Committee Chairman, Sanjay Kumar Jha.
The statement highlighted discussions centered on national highway development in the region, particularly focusing on the planned National Highway-210, which aims to connect Melli to Singtam. The committee members, along with the governor, also discussed the necessity to enhance tourism infrastructure in Sikkim and emphasized ongoing efforts aimed at preserving and promoting the state's rich local and traditional art, culture, and heritage.

According to the statement, Sanjay Kumar Jha was joined by 31 other Members of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) as part of the visiting delegation, which arrived in Sikkim on June 28.
Throughout their stay in Sikkim, the Committee will engage with officials from the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Roads and Bridges Department, and the Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department.
Their visit will concentrate on tourism infrastructure improvements in Sikkim, the development and upkeep of national highways, and the promotion of cultural heritage and local and indigenous art.
