Death Toll Rises to 39 in Sigachi Industries Explosion

Hyderabad, Jul 4 (PTI) The explosion at Sigachi Industries' pharma plant in Sangareddy district has resulted in a death toll of 39, following the demise of another person who was undergoing treatment, stated Superintendent of Police (SP) Paritosh Pankaj on Friday. The victim had sustained severe burns in the tragic incident, he informed PTI.

As of Friday morning, twenty-two individuals remain hospitalized, receiving medical care.

An official release on Thursday noted that 143 employees were present at the plant during the accident, out of which 61 were unharmed. Twelve workers have been discharged from hospitals after recovery, while nine individuals are still unaccounted for, the statement said.

Furthermore, the release mentioned that the identification process for the 31 workers who perished in the catastrophe has been completed.

A committee of experts, appointed by the state government to investigate the causes and trace the sequence of events leading to the explosion, conducted a site visit on Thursday.
