Navi Mumbai Tragedy: Man Accused of Burning Wife Alive, Arrested

In a harrowing incident in Navi Mumbai, a 35-year-old man allegedly burned his wife to death, citing suspicions of her involvement in an extra-marital affair. He attempted to disguise this crime as a suicide, according to police reports filed on Thursday. This facade was shattered when the couple's seven-year-old daughter, a witness, reported that her father had indeed set her mother alight.

The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of August 25 in Pagotegaon, Uran. The accused, identified as Rajkumar Ramshiromani Sahu, faced arrest the following day. As per Hanif Mulani, the senior inspector at Uran police station, Rajkumar was under the delusion that his wife, 32-year-old Jagrani Rajkumar Sahu, was unfaithful.

On the day of the incident, Rajkumar reportedly restrained Jagrani by tying her hands and legs, then doused her with kerosene before setting her ablaze using a lighter. The victim was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead upon arrival. Initially, the authorities registered the case as an accidental death based on Rajkumar's false claim that his wife had locked herself in a room and committed suicide.

Nevertheless, the police investigation, spearheaded by Inspector Mulani, exposed inconsistencies in Rajkumar’s narrative. The autopsy report, coupled with the vital testimony from the young daughter, painted a different story. The child's statement notably contradicted her father's account.

Further implicating Rajkumar, CCTV footage from the vicinity captured him leaving the house in the early hours after the heinous act, which directly clashed with his claim of not being present at the time of the incident.

On August 26, based on medical, forensic evidence, and the eyewitness accounts, the Uran police charged Rajkumar under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 103(1) for murder and arrested him. This case is a stark depiction of domestic violence, affirmed by inspecting officers, and exposes deep-seated issues within the household.

The investigation into this brutal murder continues as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this tragic case.
