New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) - The Supreme Court is slated to hear on Thursday a petition from journalist Abhisar Sharma, who seeks to nullify an FIR issued against him by the Assam Police.

The FIR pertains to a video post that allegedly criticizes the state's policies.

A bench composed of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh is expected to review Sharma's plea, which has been filed by advocate Sumeer Sodhi.

Sharma is challenging the constitutionality of Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), addressing actions that threaten India's sovereignty, unity, and integrity.

The FIR stemmed from a complaint lodged by Alok Baruah at the Guwahati Crime Branch police station.

Baruah claims that the video Sharma posted on his YouTube channel on August 8 incites communal tension and distrust towards state authorities.

In the video, Sharma reportedly discusses recent comments by the Gauhati High Court regarding the allocation of 3,000 bighas of land in the tribal Dima Hasao district to a private entity for a cement plant.

Sharma faces charges under various sections of the BNS, including 152 and 196, which involve promoting enmity between groups.
