SC defers carbon dating of Shivlinga found inside Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi

The Supreme Court of India deferred a scientific survey, including carbon dating, to determine the age of 'Shivling' found at Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi on Friday. 

The top court also issued notices to Centre, UP govt on the plea of the mosque panel against HC order for a scientific survey, carbon dating of 'Shivling', adding the matter needs to be handled carefully, pointing out that HC order needs closer scrutiny.

Meanwhile, informing the apex court SG said the Centre and UP govt will examine in consultation with ASI if there is an alternative method to ascertain the age of 'Shivling' found at Gyanvapi.
