Tragic Bus Accident in Samba District: 1 Dead, 39 Injured

Samba/Jammu, Aug 21 (PTI) A tragic accident occurred on the Jammu-Pathankot highway as a bus transporting pilgrims to the revered cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district on Thursday. One person lost his life, and 39 others sustained injuries, according to officials.

The mishap transpired at Jatwal when a tyre burst caused the bus, traveling from Uttar Pradesh to Katra, to veer off the highway near a small bridge. The deceased has been identified as Iqbal Singh, a 45-year-old resident of Amroha.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated, and the injured were transported to a hospital in Samba. Among the injured, seven were later transferred to AIIMS Vijaypur for further treatment.
