New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) - In a tragic incident in East Delhi's Ghazipur area, a 28-year-old sales manager was fatally stabbed, while his friend was injured following an altercation with a momo vendor. As per police reports, the incident occurred during a late-night brawl.
Three people have been arrested, and a juvenile has been apprehended in connection to the incident, authorities informed.
This unfortunate event unfolded during a birthday celebration on Wednesday night. The victim, Vikas Walecha, recounted a recent altercation with the momo vendor, Salman, to his friends, which led them to confront the vendor.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Abhishek Dhania, the group, driving in three vehicles, confronted Salman near a wine shop at the Paper Market close to the CNG pump in Ghazipur around 10:30 pm. An ensuing scuffle resulted in Walecha being fatally stabbed and his friend, Sumit Sharma, sustaining a leg fracture. Both men were employees of a private company in Sector 5, Noida.
Walecha, a resident of NIT Sector 5, Faridabad, was declared dead upon arrival at LBS Hospital. Meanwhile, Sharma is still undergoing treatment, the DCP added.
A case has been filed at the Ghazipur police station following a complaint by one of the victims. Those arrested include Salman Khan (24), Azad Mishra (31), and Monu Mishra (28), all from Khoda Colony in Ghaziabad. A 13-year-old juvenile is also among those apprehended.
The police have recovered a knife and an iron rod, believed to have been used in the attack, from the accused.
DCP Dhania mentioned that multiple police teams have been deployed to identify and detain further suspects involved in the incident. CCTV footage is being analyzed to trace the culprits.
