Four Arrested for Rs 11.25 Lakh College Treasury Theft in Palghar

Palghar, Aug 13 (PTI) Police have apprehended four men, including two auto-rickshaw drivers, from Gujarat for their alleged involvement in the theft of Rs 11.25 lakh in cash, which was collected as student fees, from the treasury of a college in Palghar city, Maharashtra, as reported by officials on Wednesday.

The incident occurred between 5.30 pm on July 23 and 7.45 am on July 24 at Dandekar College, situated on Boisar Road, according to a police release.

A college official subsequently reported the theft of Rs 11.25 lakh from the college's accounts department treasury by unidentified individuals.

Utilizing technical analysis and intelligence inputs, the local police identified the four suspects, who were later apprehended in Umbargaon, Valsad district, Gujarat, on Monday, with assistance from the local police, as per the release.

"During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the theft. So far, Rs 4.05 lakh of the stolen cash has been successfully recovered," the release mentioned.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Shubham Virendra Singh (21) and Murali Manohar Pawar (23), both auto-rickshaw drivers, along with Arun Lakhan Chavan (19), a mason, and Farooq Firoz Khan, all residents of Valsad, as indicated in the release.

They have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 305(A) (theft in a dwelling house) and 331(3)(4) (house trespass or house break), as confirmed by the police.
