Kochi, Jul 31 (PTI) A prominent figure in the Malayalam music scene, rapper Vedan, also known as Hirandas Murali, is facing serious legal troubles as a rape case has been filed against him. The complaint was made by a lady doctor who alleges that Vedan sexually assaulted her multiple times between 2021 and 2023 across various locations in Kerala. Police shared this information on Thursday.
An FIR has been registered under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Vedan at the Thrikkakara police station on Wednesday night. A senior police officer provided details about the case.
Vedan has been previously implicated in legal issues. Earlier in April, he was arrested and subsequently released on bail in relation to a drug-related case.
Not long after, he faced another arrest by the Forest Department due to possession of a leopard tooth, eventually being released on bail for this charge as well.
Additional controversy surrounded Vedan when a complaint was filed against him in May by a BJP leader. The leader accused the rapper of defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and promoting caste-based divisions through his lyrical content.
