Kochi, Aug 7 (PTI) - The police have announced that they are closely monitoring the movements of Hirandas Murali, popularly known as Malayalam rapper Vedan. He has been accused of repeatedly "raping" a woman doctor in various places in the state between 2021 and 2023.

Kochi city police commissioner, Putta Vimaladitya, informed reporters that while Vedan's current whereabouts are being tracked, he is not currently considered to be on the run.

Commissioner Vimaladitya also mentioned that Vedan has filed an anticipatory bail application in the Kerala High Court. The investigative process, including the questioning of witnesses and gathering of evidence, will proceed until the court addresses the bail plea.

An FIR has been filed against the rapper under sections 376 (rape) and 376(2)(n) (repeated rape of the same woman) of the IPC at the Thrikkakara police station, based on the doctor’s complaint.

The doctor claimed there were also financial dealings between her and Vedan, according to earlier police reports.

Vedan has dealt with allegations in the past as well. He was initially arrested and subsequently granted bail in April for a drug-related case.

Following this, he was again apprehended, then released on bail by the Forest Department tied to a leopard tooth in his possession.

Moreover, in May, a BJP leader filed a complaint against him, accusing him of defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and inciting caste-based divisions through his music.
