Jaipur, Jul 3 (PTI) Rajasthan welcomed its newly appointed Director General of Police, Rajeev Kumar Sharma, as he assumed his role at the Police Headquarters on Thursday evening.
Sharma takes over from former DGP Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, who has retired and now serves as the Chairman of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC).
Following Sahoo's retirement, Ravi Prakash Mehrada, the ACB DGP, temporarily held the position of state DGP but also retired on June 30.
The Department of Personnel of the state issued Sharma's appointment order, stating that his tenure is set for two years or until further orders, based on whichever comes first.
Sharma's appointment was made following the recommendation of the empanelment committee led by the UPSC.
Previously, Sharma, an IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, was serving on central deputation as the Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development in New Delhi.
A native of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, Sharma brings extensive experience in policing and administration to his new role. He was honored with the President's Police Medal in 2014.
