Punjab Vidhan Sabha passes ‘The Punjab Water Resources (Management And Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025’

The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday approved ‘The Punjab Water Resources (Management and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025’, introduced by Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal.

The bill proposes amendments to Section 6 of the Punjab Water Resources (Management and Regulation) Act, 2020. According to the revised provision, no individual shall serve as Chairperson or Member of the Punjab Water Regulation and Development Authority if they have attained the age of 65 years.

Additionally, the tenure for the Chairperson and Members has been set at a maximum of three years, with a possible extension of up to five years based on performance, management, and initiatives taken.

Furthermore, as per the amendment to Section 9 of the 2020 Act, all fees, charges, and funds received by the Authority from any source, as determined by the government, will be deposited into the State Treasury.
