Punjab Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar on Friday was allegedly attacked by Nihangs on a busy street in Ludhiana in Punjab over his alleged controversial remarks against Sikhs.

In a viral video, two Nighangs were seen assaulting Thapar while a third one kept a policeman away with the help of others.

Thapar was riding a scooter, a cop was on the backseat of te pillion. Two Nihangas stopped the pillion and confronted Thapar. One of the Nihanga's allegedly attacked Thapar with a sharp sword while he was pleading with them with folded hands.  As the cop tried to stop them, he was taken to the side of the road by a third man.

The Shiv Sena leader was taken to the hospital where doctors declared his condition critical.

Reportedly, Thapar was coming back after attending a trust event when Nighangs attacked him.

A case has been filed by the Ludhiana police. Ludhiana Deputy Police Commissioner Jaskaran Singh Teja said that the accused have been identified and will be arrested soon.

The incident invited a sharp criticism on the ruling AAP government. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur has attacked the AAP-led government in Punjab and said the incident is indicative of a law-and-order collapse.
