In a significant breakthrough in Punjab Police’s efforts to ensure a safe and secure state under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Police, has arrested four associates of the Harpreet Happo Gang.
They were wanted in connection with the murder of a gym trainer, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced in Chandigarh on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Guri, was shot dead by four assailants in Kharar on January 31, 2025.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Amrit from Partapura in Phillaur, Onkar Singh alias Golu and Prince from Pandwa village in Kapurthala, and Gurpreet Singh alias Guri from Satnampura in Phagwara. Police teams have recovered two .32 bore pistols with magazines and 20 cartridges and have also impounded their Grey Maruti Ertiga (PB-01-D-2996).
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations indicate the accused were operating under instructions from foreign-based handlers and were assigned to carry out a targeted killing in Punjab. He also mentioned that all arrested individuals have a history of criminal activities, including cases related to murder, attempted murder, and violations of the Arms Act.
The investigation is ongoing to establish further links in the case, he added.
Providing details of the operation, ADGP AGTF Promod Ban said that based on reliable inputs, police teams, under the supervision of AIG Sandeep Goel and DSP Rajan Parminder, launched a joint operation with Himachal Pradesh Police. The teams, led by Inspector Vikram and Sub-Inspector Chandar, successfully apprehended all four accused from Mcleodganj in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
The ADGP further revealed that another suspect has been identified in the gym trainer’s murder case, and police teams are conducting raids to arrest him.
