The Punjab Government remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens. To ensure a safe and supportive environment for destitute elderly individuals, the state has established old age homes across all districts.
For the financial year 2024-25, a grant of ₹4.21 crore has been allocated to support 15 old age homes in Punjab.
Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized that elderly individuals seeking shelter can reside in these homes, where they are provided with free accommodation, clothing, food, and other essential amenities. The department operates these homes in collaboration with non-governmental organizations.
She disclosed that district-wise grants have been disbursed, including ₹37.68 lakh for Amritsar, ₹28.54 lakh for Bathinda, and ₹28.54 lakh for Fazilka. Other allocations include ₹70.41 lakh for Ludhiana, ₹22.47 lakh for Malerkotla, ₹28.54 lakh for Moga, ₹28.79 lakh for Pathankot, ₹17.77 lakh for Patiala, ₹30.80 lakh for Ropar, ₹58.49 lakh for Sangrur, ₹21.55 lakh for Tarn Taran, ₹22.02 lakh for Faridkot, and ₹26.37 lakh for Ferozepur.
The Cabinet Minister further highlighted that new old age homes are under construction in Barnala and Mansa districts, each designed to accommodate 75 senior citizens. With an investment of ₹17.34 crore, these facilities aim to provide a comfortable and caring environment for elderly residents.
Reaffirming the government's commitment, Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab continues to prioritize the well-being of senior citizens. She stressed that the elderly are an integral part of society and ensuring their welfare is both a moral duty and a social responsibility.
