Punjab government provides Rs 1042.63 crore for widows and destitute women

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, remains dedicated to the welfare of all sections of society, including widows and destitute women.

Providing insights into the ongoing efforts, Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that financial assistance amounting to ₹1042.63 crore has been distributed to widows and destitute women across the state until January 2025.

Dr. Baljit Kaur further highlighted that approximately 6.47 lakh widows and destitute women are currently benefiting from this initiative. She also noted that under various welfare schemes, the state government has disbursed a total of ₹5555.94 crore till January 2025.

The minister added that during the current financial year, a budgetary allocation of ₹1086 crore was made for widows and destitute women, with ₹1042.63 crore already utilized by January 2025.

Emphasizing the need for transparency in implementing these welfare programs, Dr. Baljit Kaur urged officials to ensure that every eligible beneficiary receives their entitled benefits without any hindrance.

She also pointed out that, along with initiatives for women's welfare, the Social Security Department extends financial assistance to persons with disabilities and dependent children, further strengthening the government's commitment to social securit
