Punjab’s Cabinet Minister for Mining and Water Resources, Barinder Kumar Goyal, reaffirmed the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government’s dedication to ensuring that canal water reaches farmers at the tail end of the irrigation system.
Speaking at a gathering in Sherewala and Shergarh villages of Balluana constituency, he emphasized that the government has successfully fulfilled its commitment to providing adequate irrigation water to farmers.
During his visit to the district, Minister Goyal also reviewed the newly discovered potash reserves in select villages. He noted that five new minor canals have been constructed in Balluana at an investment of ₹30 crore, significantly enhancing irrigation infrastructure.
Highlighting the impact of efficient water management, he pointed out that under previous governments, only 68% of canal water was effectively utilized due to mismanagement, whereas the current administration has increased this to 84% through improved policies.
Discussing further infrastructure advancements, Goyal stated that old canals and watercourses have been restored, and damaged or unpaved canals are being reconstructed with concrete to ensure a continuous and reliable water supply to farmlands.
He added that these efforts have not only improved irrigation but have also contributed to groundwater conservation and a reduction in electricity consumption.
The Minister also detailed the Mann government’s accomplishments, including free electricity, the establishment of Mohalla Clinics, and key reforms in the education sector.
During his address, he announced a grant of ₹2.07 crore for the government school in Shergarh village and ₹25 lakh for the renovation of the village pond, further supporting local development.
Upon his arrival, MLA Amandeep Singh Goldy Musafir welcomed Minister Goyal and highlighted the numerous development projects launched by the Punjab government in the constituency.
Senior officials, including Director of Mining Abhijeet Kaplish, SDM Krishanpal Rajput, and Executive Engineer (Mining) Jagsir Singh, were also present at the event.
