Canada police arrested Indian-origin Jagpreet Singh for second-degree murder after he allegedly stabbed his wife Balwinder Kaur to death in Abbotsford on March 15.

Canada's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a statement that they responded to an assault in progress report on Friday. After reaching the scene they found Balwinder Kaur inside the home with life-threatening stab wounds. The first responders tried to tend to her injuries, but to no avail.

The accused, Jagpreet Singh, was arrested from the scene of crime.

According to the victim's sister, Rajwinder Kaur, Singh made a video call to his family after stabbing his wife and informed them about the murder.

Balwinder Kaur, 41, had been residing in Canada for four years. Her husband Jagpreet Singh joined her a week ago.

The victim's sister, Rajwinder Kaur said the couple had regular arguments over finances as Singh was unemployed after he quit working.

Jagpreet's family denied the violence allegations leveled by Balwinder Kaur's family and said the two were a happy couple.
