Mumbai, Jul 23 (PTI) A resident of Pune, Maharashtra, has fallen victim to a cyber scam, losing over Rs 5 lakh to a fraudster who posed as a stock market investment advisor promising lucrative returns, according to police reports. The episode unfolded when the individual was exploring advertisements related to stock market investments. Subsequently, a contact added him to a WhatsApp group wherein the administrator offered guidance on share trading, an official from the Ambegaon police station noted. As the story progressed, another individual shared a link with the victim, urging him to provide personal information to invest in an Initial Public Offering (IPO) for promising returns. Under this guise, the fraudster obtained the victim's Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other sensitive data. The outcome was a loss, as the scammer managed to siphon off more than Rs 5 lakh from the victim's bank account. Realizing the deceit, the victim reported the scam to the Pune police, prompting them to file a case under pertinent legal provisions and initiate an investigation.
