Suspect Detained in Pune IT Professional Assault Case

Pune, Jul 4 (PTI) Two days following a harrowing incident in Pune where a 22-year-old IT professional was allegedly raped in her apartment by a man posing as a courier delivery person, police have detained a suspect.

A senior police official stated that any prior connections between the suspect and the victim are being investigated.

The distressing incident occurred around 7:30 PM on Wednesday at a housing society located in the Kondhwa area.

According to police reports, the accused took a selfie using the victim's phone, capturing a part of his face and the victim's back. He also left a threatening message, warning that he had taken her pictures and would release them on social media if she reported the crime.

Before entering the apartment, the man allegedly claimed to be a courier delivery agent and showed the victim a document that appeared to be related to a bank. As narrated by the victim to the police, he asked for a pen to seemingly sign a document.

At the moment the victim turned her back to fetch the pen, he forced his way inside, secured the door, and assaulted her, according to her complaint.

The victim also informed the police that she lost consciousness during the incident and came to an hour later, finding the accused had left.
