A large crowd gathered on Ranchi's Main Road and raised slogans against Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, former head of the Delhi BJP's media unit who was expelled by the party over his remarks.

The protestors had shouted slogans and pelted the police with stones leading to heavy deployment in and around Main Road.

Internet services were snapped in Ranchi from 7 pm on Friday to 6 am on Saturday.

Condemning the violence, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren termed it as "a planned conspiracy" and warned the miscreants to abstain from such incidents.
