Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi will be the lead speaker from her party in the debate on the Women's Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The bill seeks to provide a 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. It was introduced in Lok Sabha on the first day of the proceedings in the new parliamentary complex by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

The bill was approved by the Union Cabinet on Monday.

Several Opposition leaders have criticised the government questioning why it is delaying the bill's implementation till the delimitation process.
