The Supreme Court of India to August 21 allowed a rape survivor to terminate her pregnancy.

The woman had approached the top court and sought permission to undergo the procedure.

In its order, the apex court said, while a pregnancy in a marriage is a matter of joy, however, outside the marriage, particularly as a result of sexual assault, can be harmful for a woman's mental health.

The top court has directed the survivor to be at the hospital for the procedure either today or on Aug 22 at 9.00 AM.
