A day after quitting as a BJP MLA, former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar joined the Congress party on 17 April 2023.

After being inducted into the Opposition party, Shettar claimed that he had been humiliated by the BJP as it denied him a ticket for the May 10 elections.

He said that he was forcefully thrown out of the party that he built, and he is now joining the Congress by accepting its ideology and principles.
